Frequently Asked Questions
What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm, made by Allergan, is a long lasting cosmetic filler that provides dramatic results for improving the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. Over time, certain areas of the face naturally lose volume as a part of the normal aging process. By injecting Juvéderm into these areas of the face, we can smooth out wrinkles and folds by replacing the effect of volume that was lost. This is a non-surgical solution to soften facial lines and wrinkles, restore volume and fullness to the skin, plump up lips, and fill in unwanted scars. Juvéderm injected into the lips can give back fullness to lips that have become volume deflated with time. The cosmetic results are visible immediately, bestowing you with a more youthful and invigorated look.
How does Juvéderm work?
Juvéderm is made up of a natural hyaluronic acid, which adds volume back to facial tissue. You will see results immediately after the procedure. Although, you may have some swelling right after the treatment, the swelling will go down within a few days. The final results vary in patients, depending on how much Juvéderm is used and or how much volume has been lost prior to treatment. Individual facial analysis by a Master Injector is required to determine how much Juvéderm is needed to achieve each patient’s expectations.
Juvéderm is currently available in two different versions. These variations are very similar, but it is important to know the difference. Juvéderm Ultra is meant for finer lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm Ultra Plus is a thicker version of the Juvéderm injectable gel. Having a thicker gel is useful to soften deeper lines and folds.
Does Juvéderm injections hurt?
Our Master Injectors use a very thin needle to minimize pain and discomfort. Prior to treatment, a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the designated area and/or ice is applied to reduce sensation. A nerve block could be used if desired, especially for lip injections. Furthermore, Juvéderm XC has a numbing ingredient that instantly works to prevent pain, making a nerve block required in only rare cases. Many patients find the injections tolerable with little to no discomfort.
