Dr. Mark Melson is a board certified Ophthalmologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology specializing in the diagnosis and management of eyelid, tear duct and orbital diseases. His goal is to provide quality, compassionate and comprehensive medical care, as well as to offer safe and effective cosmetic and functional surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Dr. Melson graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine then completed his Ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. After his general ophthalmology training, Dr. Melson completed subspecialty fellowship training in oculoplastic, orbital and cosmetic surgery at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He then moved to Nashville to join the faculty at Vanderbilt University where he held dual appointments as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Dermatology). He was also an attending oculoplastic surgeon at the Nashville Veteran Affairs Medical Center. While at Vanderbilt, he served as the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Ophthalmology and was actively involved in resident education. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and lectured locally, nationally and internationally. While at Vanderbilt, he served as the Assistant Team Ophthalmologist for the Nashville Predators Hockey franchise.
Dr. Melson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is actively involved in local, state and national medical societies and holds positions on several medical society boards.
A native Virginian, Dr. Melson attended the University of Virginia where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce with a concentration in Accounting. Following college, he briefly worked at a leading international public accounting firm prior to starting his own small-business consulting firm in Washington, D.C. While in Washington, Dr. Melson completed the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program at Georgetown University.
Dr. Melson and his wife, Martha, live in Nashville with their two children. He enjoys fly fishing, tennis, snow skiing and Predators hockey.
