Dr. Melson is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is actively involved in local, state, and national medical societies and has held positions on several medical society boards. His goal is to provide quality, compassionate, and comprehensive medical care and offer safe and effective cosmetic and functional surgical and non-surgical treatments.

The Road to Mastery

A native Virginian, Dr. Melson attended the University of Virginia, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce with a concentration in Accounting. Following college, he briefly worked at a leading international public accounting firm before starting his own small business consulting firm in Washington, D.C. While in Washington, Dr. Melson completed the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program at Georgetown University. Dr. Melson graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. After his general ophthalmology training, he completed subspecialty fellowship training in oculoplastic, orbital, and cosmetic surgery at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Teaching Tomorrow’s Healers

After his fellowship, Dr. Melson moved to Nashville to join the faculty at Vanderbilt University, where he held dual appointments as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Dermatology). He was also an attending oculoplastic surgeon at the Nashville Veteran Affairs Medical Center. 

While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Melson served as the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Ophthalmology and was actively involved in resident education. He also served as the Assistant Team Ophthalmologist for the Nashville Predators Hockey franchise. Dr. Melson has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and lectured locally, nationally, and internationally.

Beyond the OR

Dr. Melson and his wife, Martha, call Nashville home, where they live with their two wonderful children. When he's not in the office, Dr. Melson is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He finds tranquility in fly fishing, thrill in playing tennis with friends, and the rush of snow skiing down the slopes. You can also find him cheering on his favorite sports team, the Nashville Predators, at their hockey games. Dr. Melson balances a fulfilling family life with diverse hobbies, bringing the same passion and commitment to both his personal and professional life.
